Before starting, please take a moment to read through all the instructions before installing our adhesive-free clear static cling vinyl guitar fretboard note locator.
Leave the vinyl on the backing paper. Turn the Note Map over and draw two lines on the back. One at the third (3rd) fret hole and one at the seventh (7th) fret hole. Number the top piece 1, the middle piece 2 and bottom piece 3.
Using a pair of sharp scissors cut across the Note Map at the first line.
Now cut across the Note Map at the second line.
You should have three pieces like this.
Starting with piece number 1, peel the clear vinyl Note Map off the white backing paper.
Slide a top corner of piece 1 over the fretboard and under the strings. Make sure to get the Note Map under all the strings.
Position the fret holes in the Note Map over the first two fret wires on the guitar neck. Be sure to get the holes "cleanly" over the fret wires.
While gently stretching the vinyl across the fretboard and keeping the note indicators positioned properly under the correct strings, fold one flap around the side and back of the neck pressing the vinyl smoothly against the back of the neck. Now, while continuing to apply a gentle stretch, fold the second flap around the side and back of the neck pressing the vinyl smoothly against the back of the neck and over the top of the first flap.
Visually check to make sure no vinyl is contacting the bottom of the strings. A quick strum of the strings will help you hear any “string buzz”. If you have contact with the strings and vinyl don't fret, just loosen the flaps in the back and re-stretch the vinyl across the fretboard then re-smooth the flaps to the back of the neck.
Peel the backing off of piece 2 and slide the vinyl under the strings and over the fretboard at the third (3rd) fret wire. Repeat the steps from above to apply the vinyl in the correct position on your fretboard. Be sure to "line up" the note indicators under the correct strings. Repeat Step 9.
Peel the backing off of piece 3 and slide the vinyl under the strings and over the fretboard at the seventh (7th) fret wire. Repeat the steps from above to apply the vinyl in the correct position on your fretboard. Repeat Step 9.
You now have 3 pieces of vinyl installed on your fretboard and no strings buzzing. You’re ready to play. Visit our “How to Use It” page and see how to get started. The journey of mastering an instrument is a harmonious path for life.
The Don't Fret Note Map™ note locator does not effect the tonal quality of your guitar fretboard or the playability of your instrument. If you get a buzz on any string(s), check to make sure the vinyl is not touching any strings. If it is, simply re-stretch the vinyl skin in the fret space area where the contact occurs.
Don't Fret Productions™ guitar neck maps are made of the highest quality vinyl available. All printing utilizes long lasting, professional grade silk screening inks. We do not recommend that you leave the vinyl on your guitar for extended periods of time. Remember: Easy on, easy off.
Please do not let small children play with the vinyl. Keep the vinyl out of the reach of pets.
